This fabulous "Andrew Liver Salt" sign dates to the 1920's and would have been attached to the shop wall where it could be seen by passers by.Andrews Liver Salts was first sold from 1894, by William Henry Scott and William Murdoch Turner. The product was named after St Andrew's church near to the factory in Newcastle Upon Tyne where it was manufactured. The trademark "Andrews Liver Salt" was registered in 1909.The sign has some patches of enamel loss and 'nibbles' to the metal on edge...s and corners. There are also three holes and patches of enamel loss to the body of the sign.It also has the scuffs and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use.However, the stylish black and white shadow lettering, green background and ilustrated tin, (although the black colour to the tin lid has faded), have retained a good depth of colour and fair gloss too.I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.It measures 102 cm (40 inches) long and 51 cm (20 inches) high.
