Vintage 1950s black slubbed silk party dress by Helen Rose.This is a deceptive piece - it looks simple at first, but there is a lot going on.The top of the dress is full, with a draped neckline and a darted bust. The sleeves are short, with darts in the front, and small, slightly dropped arm openings, that remind me of casual women's shirts from the 80s. This has a deep v in the back, with the fabric tapering in with diagonal pleats on either side of the spi...ne.The waist is cinched with two black cords, that attach with a hidden hook and eye to a spray of dangling cords on the left front side (I didn't find the hook and eye until just now so the configuration shown isn't quite right).The skirt is full, with an under layer of sheer black silk. The bottom layer is a straight black satin "slip" so there's a contrast between the fullness of the skirt and the straight bottom layer. The fullness culiminates with a small "bustle" in the back. Beautiful!This is made of a soft and thin slubbed black fabric - silk I believe.

Label: "Helen Rose" and "Bonwit Teller"Condition: Excellent - the slit in the back of the slip/lining is torn several inches along the seam.
