19TH C ANTIQUE CHINESE QING DYNASTY EMPRESS JIA SHUN PORTRAIT, TINTED W/B SCROLL
Item History & Price
DESCRIPTION:There are a few minor areas of paper loss about the size of an apple seed, one area of loss being this size and the others even smaller. There are no tears, loss or rips to any of the edges of th...e rolled paper scroll. The attached top and bottom dowels are also in well preserved antique condition. There's some minor horizontal crimping and some miniscule ink loss right at the apex of these faint creases in the paper roll. Again, this would be considered minor and barely noticeable. There's however, a faint light violet stain, which looks like a small bit of water damage or possibly spilt ink (since it's light violet and sopped up wet black ink with water and a blotter rag would cause the ink to turn this color.) It's quite faint but the photographs illustrate the fact that it's nonetheless present. The very light violet stain goes across what would be the empress's left eye. It's still an extraordinary hand colored, monumental antique, mid to late 19th century Chinese woodblock print in the form of a large paper scrolled portrait of the Chinese Empress Jia Shun of the Qing dynasty. Extraordinary. Not a more recent facsimile or a contemporary reproduction. This is an authentic, original antique Chinese paper scroll 'painting' in the form of a hand tinted monumental woodblock print on a large rolled piece of paper, with identifying Chinese calligraphy forming a banner above the portrait. A magnificent antique piece. Monumental. Impressive. Tremendous detail and draughtsmanship. Gorgeous.
CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall vintage condition. A faint light violet stain running across the figure's left eye and a few minor permutations and paper loss in the pictorial field in the form of very minor holes in the paper's surface. The edges are clean and free of tears or loss. In still what would be considered to be in well-preserved overall antique condition. Very beautiful.
