A truly beautiful vintage timepiece with a wonderful sense of history, this high quality vintage Solar Birkdale timepiece from the Gallet Watch company brings everything you love to see in a vintage watch, a military engraving, stunning original dial with fantastic two-tone 24-hour design, a high quality case by the famous maker Francois Borgel and an excellent quality movement with rare indirect center seconds, ticking strong and keeping good time. This just oozes history and has that unmistaka...ble vintage feel. Signed on the back with B-21845 (battalion number), Gnr (General) W.R.Dakin, R.C.A. (Royal Canadian Artillery?). I purchased this watch from the nephew of the original owner so can be 100% assured of its military history. The dial is beautiful and amazingly detailed with an outer 1/5th seconds track, fancy Deco style Luminous number with "shy 10" and red 24 hours, signed Solar, Birkdale, Made In Switzerland. The AWESOME and unique original blue steel hands with matching luminous complete the military look to perfection. The case is a small size today, but was typical back in the 1930's and 40's at around 29mm in diameter and looks great on a smaller size wrist. It is crafted by the famous case maker Francois Borgel who also did work for companies such as Patek Philippe, Mido and Movado to make a few. It is in perfect lightly worn, unpolished condition. Signed inside the back FB "key" Patent, Gallet & Co, Swiss, Acier Inoxydable (stainless steel in French). The movement is then protected with an dust cover. The high quality movement is in bright and clean cosmetic condition and is ticking along strong, signed 15 Jewels, Swiss Made with incabloc protection on the balance. While the movement appears to be keeping good time we have not had a service performed so it must be sold as is, in need of repair with no timekeeping guarantee. A wonderful vintage watch in every regard with a tangible sense of history that simply cannot be duplicated today. Don't miss it!
