Original list of slaves states, in part: “The following is the list of the slaves and appro…ment [I can’t read all of it] thereof made after homologation of first family meeting:Colin -... a n//// boy 25 or 26 yrs old. appraised at $1000.Jeffrey - … 19 or 20… 900Easter - n///// girl - 45 yrs old… 450Hortense … 18 yrs old, with her 2 children… 1000…”[There are 13 names listed.]
On back of paper: “In the matter of the minor Estelle Scott.”
The only information I could find on the internet linking someone named “Estelle Scott” with “slaves” was found in a book, “From Slave to Priest”. Quote from pages 200-201: “A survey of this period made by Estelle Scott in ‘Growth of the N//// Community’ states that the place population of Chicago was 27, 000.” [Source: WPA Project 3684]. I DO NOT KNOW if this was the same person.ALSO: The book is NOT included with this item.
