Original Description:
Small early 19th century sampler by Mary Clout aged 11 - 1814. Worked in various shades of blue wool on linen, this little sampler is completely charming with neat-ish stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section contains the following two couplets, each underlined with a border pattern with Mary's details and the date of 1814 running across the bottom edge

The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with some damage in the first couplet which also has an old repair to the right side. The colours of the threads are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Mary first stitched it.Measures 8" x 11 1/4"
