The battle of Fort Donelson took place on February, 15, 1862 in Tennessee. Brigadier General Grant marched the Union soldiers 12 miles down from Fort Henry and surrounded the fort. It was a Union victory where Grant earned the phrase, "Unconditional Surrender."

They try to plant the Union Flag and get resistance from a Confederate solider. There is blood on the ground and dying Union men are cradled in their comrades' arms. Dead and dying Confederate soldiers fall near the artillery. It is hand to had combat. Steamboats are in the background.
