The color lithograph depicts the Union soldiers charging up the hill to Fort Donelson while engagin...g the Confederate fighters. They try to plant the Union Flag and get resistance from a Confederate solider. There is blood on the ground and dying Union men are cradled in their comrades' arms. Dead and dying Confederate soldiers fall near the artillery. It is hand to had combat. Steamboats are in the background.
