Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:7718176 | Type: Brooch/ Pin |
Main Gemstone: Amethyst | Metal: Silver |
This is a stunning vintage Art Deco period sterling silver fully hallmarked in 1929, Scottish agate and amethyst brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stones are a lovely mix of grey banded Montrose agate, green and red speckled bloodstone from the Isle of Rum and classic orange and mustard jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire. Th...e central stone is a stunning pale amethyst from the Sutherland hills that has been fully tested to confirm it is a genuine amethyst.
The brooch has a full set of hallmarks with makers JC&S ( Joseph Cook and sons ), the lion for sterling silver, anchor for Birmingham assay office and date letter E for 1929. The width is 3.3 cm ( one and a third inches ) and the pin and C clasp are original and in good working condition and original. The brooch also has its original loop on the back to fit a safety chain if required.
