Captain Jack brings you a Vintage TSS Statendam 1932 Tourist Class Dinner Menu. This is a fabulous piece of maritime history... Multiple ships have carried the "Statendam" name but this particular cruise liner was launched in 1927 by Harland and Wolff and sailing under the Dutch flag and Holland America line. She was an absolutely beautiful ship that rivaled any passenger liner of the time. In 1940, at the outbreak of WWII, she was caught in the crossfire and sadly set fire a...nd scuttled to avoid capture. She burned for five days before sinking. A short career for a such a majestic ship. This menu is in virtually mint condition, and features the 'Get Together Dinner' on Sunday 17 July 1932. The menu also features a picture of the vessel and a self portrait of the famous Dutch draughtsman, painter and printmaker, Rembrandt Van Rhyn.
