For Your Consideration An Antique Georgian (Regency / Empire / Jane Austen Era) Carved Horn Brisé Fan dated to between 1810-1820
Description This so-called imperceptible fan (called this in the Regency period because of their small size and because they were easily concealed in the dress pocket or reticule) is made of carved, pierced and brown mottled dyed horn sticks that are connected via a brown silk ribbon (properly replaced). The sticks are d...yed to resemble tortoiseshell. They are pierced to form geometric designs. The half-moon shaped sections in the centre of the inner blades where once handpainted with flowers on both sides. I have no idea who removed them and why. There shadows are still visible, so they could be added again, the shadows are not unattractive in themselves.
The fan measures approx. 6.25" long and 11.75" wide at its widest point. The measurements for this fan in centimeters are 16 cm long and 29.5 cm wide.
The fan is in good condition, with a small loss on one inner blade and a minimal loss on the tip of one blade (see last photos).
