Original Description:
French Courtsword or smallsword from the late 18th century. Gilt brass hilt, very elegant and finely engraved. The blade blued and gilt. Comes with theoriginal snake skin covered and matching mounts scabbard, marked “DASSIER A PARIS”.
Overall 40½ inches (103 cm) length. All original and untouched.
TheDassiers were a famous family of medal engravers, so this speaks for the highquality of this sword. There is a book by William Eisler: “The Dassiers ofGeneva: 18th Century Eur...opean Medallists. Volume 1 Jean Dassier, MedalEngraver: Geneva, Paris and London, 1700 - 1730.
