Five Sided Bamboo Fly Rod Uslan KitHere is a high quality pentagonal (5-sided) bamboo fly rod made from an impregnated (not varnished) Uslan blank in the seldom seen 7 ft. length. Rod is signed "Russell G-49" so it is apparently a rod assembled from an Uslan kit by someone named Russell. Perhaps the "G-49" signifies the seventh rod put up in 1949. Nicely done with professional wraps. Super Z nickel silver ferrules fit snugly and disjoint with a pop. I comp...ared this rod to my 7' Uslan signed Spencer bamboo fly rod. This kit rod weighs 4.0 ounces and has 15/64" ferrules. My Spencer weighs 3.0 ounces and has 14/64" ferrules. Both rods have identical Champion style aluminum tubes with teal blue anodized collar and caps and Spalding trademark 42" bags. All sections of my Uslan Spencer measure 42" and fit snugly in the bag. The butt section of the kit rod is 42 3/8" - the 3/8" difference mainly due to the slightly larger and longer ferrule - and sticks out a bit from the bag slot. One kit rod tip section is original full length of 42", and the other tip is 1/4" short at the ferrule end. This Russell G-49 kit rod is straight with a fast, powerful action but not stiff - it does have some tip flex. I liked it with both WF-5 and WF-6 lines.
