My kids have grown up, moved out, and it's time to downsize. I'm selling my precious antique jewelry collection.
This is a lovely Victorian necklace comprised of a 23" long antique anchor-style chain, from which an antique locket is suspended. The locket measures 1-1/4 inches tall (including the bail) x just shy of 7/8 inches wide. Although I haven't tried it, I believe the locket opens and closes by screwing and unscrewing the clasp at the top. Both sides of... the locket are covered in clear glass, so you can see what is inside. The front side contains a swirl of blonde hair.
Mourning jewelry was a Victorian trend whereby wearable trinkets were made out of the hair of deceased loved ones. Painstakingly handcrafted, locks of hair were transformed into jewelry in remembrance of the dearly departed as an act of utmost devotion.
The spring ring clasp on the chain is marked "10K" (see photo) and I have tested the locket as well, which likewise tests as 10K. The locket also bears a maker's mark, which appears to be "A" and then "SP".
Great condition. Like all my items, I'm starting at 0.99, no reserve.
