I have a beautiful Jade/Stone ‘Dragons and Phoenix Bi ’ from my father-in-law's Chinese Jade/Hardstone/Stone collection. He died over forty years ago and this is one of his collection of several thousand itemsThe Chinese have used a variety of Jade/Stone types for over 7000 years, producing weapons, work implements, buckles, dress adornments, funeral burial pieces for use in the after life, necklaces, pendants, bangles, statues, good luck charms, offerings to the gods, and pieces... of ornamental beauty. Jade in it's many forms was highly valued in Chinese society. Here we have a beautiful pale green waxy Jade/Stone ‘Bi’ showing two writhing Dragons to the main body of the carving with two Phoenix to the top. It has very little age related calcification. The dragon is one of the 5 Chinese mythological creatures. The Chinese ancients believing that they were descended from the dragon. The Phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and regeneration. The circular shape is typical of the Bi, placed in the Chinese home for protection. The Bi is max approx x 100mm wide x 68mm tall x 4mm thick and it weighs approx 100 grams. It has great originality and character. This is a beautiful item. I am asking very little for it. Grab an attractive piece of exclusive Chinese ancient 'artistry' for your collection. Whether It is used as a simple ornament to be displayed and admired.
