Offered for auction is a Vintage American LaFrance Fire Engine Co. Inc. Elmira N.Y. "DIETZ KING" Fire Dept Lantern. This in an original, nearly impossible to find lantern. There are DIETZ KING lanterns available. But very few of the official stamped "American LaFrance Fire Engine Co." versions.... And especially teamed with the original spring-latch cast... lantern mount. Around the top of the tank it is embossed "FIRE DEPT", as well as "DIETZ KING". The lantern itself measures 1...4-1/2" tall x 7-5/8" widest part of the hinged cage, (18-5/8" tall to the top of the handle). Appears it may even have the original paint. The clear glass chimney is an official DIETZ product replacement.The American LaFrance Fire Engine Company was one of the oldest and largest fire apparatus manufacturers in the United States carrying only the top of the line merchandise for the Fire Dept., unfortunately no longer in business.
