This an extremely scarce original WWII British letter, written in March 1942, during the Siege of Malta, by a British soldier. This soldier served in the 1st Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment, which served in the Malta garrison beginning in 1941. The battalion performed defensive duties, as machine gun detachments and as part of the island's infantry defence force, and served with distinction assisting in ...the unloading of ships during heavy German air attacks.
This original letter is 3 pages long. It was written on the 13th of March 1942, during the siege. The content in interesting and emotional. This soldier wrote the letter to a girl in Cheshire.
The letter comes in it's original cover, with scarce censor stamp.
*** This letter was written on Malta in March 1942 by 4127599 Private W.R. Lightfoot, D Company, 1st Battalion, The Cheshire Regiment. Private Lightfoot served with his battalion in North Africa, in the early stages of the campaign in Libya and Egypt against the Italians and Germans. He then arrived in Malta with his battalion in 1941.
