RUSSIAN GRAND DUCHESS OLGA SEVRES PORCELAIN CHARGER ORNATE GILT BRONZE MOUNT. RUSSIAN HISTORICAL INTEREST. PROVENANCE IS FROM THE ESTATE OF THE GRAND DUCHESS OLGA NIKOLAEVNA ROMANOVA (1822 - 1892).
Sèvres Factory Style, 19th century Sèvres-blue glazed porcelain with a hand-painted lovers' scene in the centre, the border has gilt and etched leafy vines and three cartouches with hand painted floral decoration. A reverse "S" mark in underglaze blue on the b...ottom. Openwork support of gilt bronze with grape and grape leaf decoration on the four footed frame as well as floral garlands on the plate rim and the two handles. Porcelain from the French Sèvres Factory enjoyed great favor in Russia after the commission of the legendary Kameen Service by Catherine II. In particular, the light Sèvres blue was to the Russian taste. Provenance: Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna Romanova (1822 - 1892).
NOTE: I purchased three items from the sale of Duchess Olga's estate in Germany and have authenticated a silver plate with a major auction house Russian expert as being part of a wedding gift silver service set from Tsar Nicholas I upon the marriage of the Princess to Prince Charles of Wurttenberg. She is the subject of a famous painting by Franz Xaver Winterhalter. Therefore, I believe the provenance of this item to be genuine. The buyer will receive a copy of the Munich, Germany auction house purchase invoice.
Dimensions: diameter of gilt bronze mount at handles; 33 cm (13"), plate diameter 43 cm (17"). Approx 19cm (7") high. Weight approx. 3, 000 gm (6 lb, 8 oz).
Condition is very good. No chips, nicks or scratches.
