This is a 16mm, color, sound film print of "Canon" (1963) - by Norman McLaren, Released by National Film Board of Canada. It runs about 9 minutes, has complete titles , 6 smooth splices ( 3 of which are in the head titles), some light wear/lines with an occasional green scratch , faded color , and no vinegar.
This short animation explores the “canon”, a form of musical "round" in which each singer picks up the words and tune of a song after the preceding... singer. Through a combination of animation and live action, this lively musical film demonstrates, without dialogue, the many patterns that a canon can take depending on the number of participants and the length of the piece of music in question.
Norman McLaren and Grant Munro use three different animation techniques to provide visual representations of canons in a film designed to teach viewers about this ancient musical form. The soundtrack combines both recorded classical music and sounds produced by a synthesizer.
