Canon IID2 Rangefinder Camera – CLA’d and nearly Mint This Canon IID2 rangefinder camera is offered for sale at a very reasonable price. This model was a significant development in the Canon line of rangefinder models made by Canon from 1955 through 1956. This model and three other models of their time were considered the “revolutionary Canon” cameras and were unfortunately, the last of this mechanical design. There were fewer than 16, 200 cameras produced over... this two year period of time. One of their greatest features was the larger viewfinder window. As compared to a Leica, it has a much improved viewing and focus system that offers three levels of magnification for easier focusing. The rangefinder optics are very clean with a well-defined and accurate rangefinder patch and strong double image. The shutter curtains are in outstanding condition. The camera has been cleaned and lubricated and all shutter speeds appear to be accurate and within tolerance, including the slow speeds. The vulcanite cover is excellent with no chips or cracks. The chrome surfaces as seen in the pictures are a fine example of a nearly mint Canon body that has been cared for over the past 60+ years. The interior is clean and includes the film spool. The camera accepts all Leica thread lenses as well as the Canons and other M39 screw mounts of the period.As this is a vintage camera anything that is of this era could ultimately go wrong. A camera of this overall condition as seen in the listing pictures coupled with the cla’d service that has been performed, makes this a very appealing and sought after camera. It will make a wonderful display example in a collection or used to capture photographic images on film.
