Up for auctionis Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Sonnar 2.8/180 lensin M42 mount. The first Sonnar 2.8/180 was released specially for the 1936 OlympicsGames in Berlin, and was produced more than half a century, with a practicallyunchanged optical design. The version I am offering is the third version, the socalled “zebra” for the unmistakable barrel design, and was produced from 1963to 1967. I am NOT the original owner, I purchased this lens severalyears ago in awesome shape for a lens of... this age. The barrel has only minorscratches and blemishes, the glass has no mark that I can see even under stronglight. Internally I see no fog, no haze, no fungus, just some minorinternal dust that has no effect on pictures quality (common in older lenses). ONE issue with this lens is the stuck aperture blades, stuck wide open, which seems to be a common problem for this lens. From web searches, thisversion is described as having 18 blades, but I can’t confirm that. I am notcomfortable doing “open heart surgery” of lenses, so I have not attempted tofix this problem. That said, this lens is perfectly useable as the focus mechanismworks smoothly. I have produced sharp pictures with this lens on full-framedigital Canon cameras, with a very smooth bokeh rendering. The M42 mount makesit much easier to adapt to various camera mount than the much more commonversion in P6 mount. The lens comes withthe original hood, font and back caps, as well as the original container (seepictures). I used this lens for a few years after purchasing it but it hasn’tseen much use recently, so it’s time for it to move to a new home J IMPORTANT NOTES: Please contact me with any questionsbefore you bid.
