Very rare Victorian sterling silver Mint Julep Cup tribute presented to Cambridge University volunteers as they departed to fight in the Boer War. The cup is beautifully engraved with three crests of Cambridge Town, Cambridge University and Gibraltar (perhaps the volunteer hailed from Gibraltar). The cup is further engraved:
"A Tribute of respect from Town & University to Henry Arthur Jerwood Pte. 4th (C.U.) Vol. Batt. Suffolk Regt. one of those who at their Count...ry's call left Cambridge for service in South Africa 1900 - 1901".
Weight: 359.7 gm. Height: 120 mm. Diameter of rim: 95 mm. Diameter of base: 80 mm. Hall Mark: London 1900. Maker's Mark: Munsey & Co (David Munsey), Market Place, Cambridge.
