DESCRIPTION Rare 50s Vtg Swedish Designer Sten Hultberg Mid Century Linen "Mystik"-50x35 This fantastic hand printed linen fabric is Mid-Century to the max. Designed by famous Swedish designer Sten Hultberg (1909-2002) the print is rows of mod masklike faces alternating with greenish yellow zig zags. The name of the print is “Mystik” and the colors are gray, brown, soft white, and a bright yellow that leans toward green, very striki...ng. The fabric is firmly woven high quality natural linen, mid-weight with a bit of the floppy feel of fine linen. This was a bit musty from 60+ years of storage so it has been carefully hand washed, line dried, and pressed, clean and ready to use with no stains, holes, wear, or fading, just the characteristic slubs and subtleties of natural linen. It measures 50 ½” wide (printed area) by 35” long or just shy of 1 yard of 50” fabric. The medium scale print would be suitable to make several pillows or other small to medium decorative projects. Sten Hultberg’s designs can be found in museum collections all over the world from the National Museum of Sweden to various MOMAs here in the US. I believe this fabric is part of a series from 1955-56 that included a print named “Rustik” although I was not able to find actual images of these fabrics. Sten Hultberg was a prolific designer who produced textiles for his own company as well as others and also produced the designs of many well-known Mid-Century textile artists. He was a multi-talented man who also held patents for various textile printing machinery improvements and inventions.
