Up for auction, this listing is for a Late 1800's / Early 1900's Dayton Bicycle (precursor to the Huffy Bicycle). Manufactured by the Davis Sewing Machine Co. Dayton, Ohio. The Davis Sewing Machine Company began in the mid 1860's in Watertown, N.Y. by Job Davis, producing sewing machines. In 1887, the sewing machine company was purchased by businessman George Huffman and the factory was moved to Dayton, Ohio where in 1892 they began producing bicycles. The bicycle manufacturing was so ...successful that the production of sewing machines was gradually phased out. In 1924 The Davis Sewing Machine Company became The Huffman Manufacturing Company (Huffy Corp.) and began producing Huffy bicycles. This early bicycle has a leather saddle seat, badge reading The Davis Sewing Machine Company Makers Dayton, original handlebars, 24" wire spoke wooden wheels, wooden chain guard, original pedals, and partial wood back fender. The front wooden wheel is separated with some bent wire spokes, the back wooden wheel has some deformity, and the back wood wheel fender is partially missing. Would be ideal for restoration to add to an antique early bicycle collection. The photo's are used as part of the condition description, so ask questions. Shipping will be determined but we would rather not ship it. It is available for pick up and can be stored for as long as needed. We accept paypal.
