Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a unique and rare early Astatic model DD-104 crystal microphone from the 1940's (possibly 1930's) that comes with an Electro Voice 423A desk stand. You'll notice right away that while this looks like the newer D-104's of the past 60 years this one has a few differences that are quite obvious. This model was intended to either be mounted to a desk stand from the bottom ...or it could be used in a ring with springs. This mic had two options and still has the four original hooks that screw into the side of the mic. It also has an extra screen both in the rear and front of the mic. I can only assume that this was either a dual element or simply bi-directional? Astatic eventually changed that design giving the newer D-104 just one front screen. You don't see too many of these early DD-104's around. This DD-104 was manufactured by Astatic in Youngstown, Ohio and was to be used as a public address mic as it's non-directional. It was a very popular design for this company and they continued to make the single element D-104 model for many decades retaining the same basic overall style. This DD-104 is actually much thicker than the regular D-104. This DD-104 also has the shorter built in early chrome lower mechanism where the later models had the F-11 adapter. The mic no longer works but still has the original element. I would recommend using this strictly as a display model unless you plan or replacing the element with something else? The polished chrome body is free of any deep scratches, corrosion or dents. Very lite scratches only. I would rate the cosmetic condition a conservative 8 out of 1 - 10 and the Astatic badge is very nice and legible as well. The E.V 423 desk stand is almost period to this mic. Just a few years newer but makes a great platform. It's a 1940's era stand. It's in good overall condition with typical lite wear in the form of lite pitting on top of the base. The stand has an aluminum base and an Atlas AD-3 adapter to hold the thinner stem to the base. With the mic on top it's appx 11 3/4 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide. It has the 4 original rubber pads on the bottom of the base and they work excellent to keep this stand from scratching any surface it may rest on. Th stand was modified years ago to have some kind of push to talk mechanism that nolonger works but gives the overall look character. A very good piece that will draw attention anywhere it's shown. If you demand a DD-104 that few others have then this is your girl. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
