My father was a big golfer back in his day....and, apparently, quite a collector of putters over the decades :)He got his only hole-in-one on April 5th, 1964 in Atsugi, Japan while stationed there for a year as part of the USMC 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1st MAW).It was after this hole-in-one (approx. late 1964 / early 1965) that my father was part of an USMC 'training/advisory mission' to Da Nang, Vietnam to determine threat analysis in this far away part of the globe. Little did anybody know at that time that this was the tip of the proverbial iceberg....and, compliments of Uncle Sam, would win him another free trip back to Vietnam in 1967/68 for the Tet Festival. It was no party.
My father landed in Pusan, supported the Inchon landings, survived Chosin, evacuated at Hungnam, prepared for the land invasion of Cuba and lived through Tet'68 supporting his fellow Marines at the Battle of Hue ......a true American hero (but you would never know it & he'd never say it).Semper Fi Gunny Jake (USMC 1950-1969) - RIP
