This is an exquisite antique Victorian period circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish moss agate brooch designed as a flower head.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stone is a stunning green moss agate from Balmerino in north Fife and has been carved into a stunning flower head.
The brooch has a lovely sterling silver frame which although havin...g no hallmarks has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The width is 4.3 cm ( One and three quarter inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
