Continuing to clean off my shelves of old car, truck, tractor, motorcycle and sprint/midget race car stuff.
This is a neat old handmade work of art. The banner was found in the garage attic of an old time motorcycle guy in Illinois. He was apparently involved in some kind of races or road rallies for Indians and Harley Davidsons. The banner clearly shows it was used at the "START" of an event. I do not have any other info on the original owner. All my information is second or third ...hand from the guy who sold the banner to my brother with some other tractor and gas/oil signs.
The banner appears to have been painted on a well-used old piece of yellow and orange stripped awning or circus tent type material. Not sure what kind of paint was used, but it shows evidence of having runs and streaks in the paint. It may also be due to the waxy, rubbery nature of the material it was painted on. Look closely, there are also some silver looking paint spots on one side of the banner.
The banner is approx. 52in. wide and approx. 48in. in height. There are also some old metal hooks and hangers attached to the banner.
Once again......this is old.....weathered.....amateur.....smudged.....faded.....spotted.......but still really cool !
Email or call Allan 262-844-1557 with any questions. Thanks
