This is vintage ROLAND CP-40 Pitch to MIDI Converter
very rare and most simple to use Pitch to MIDI Converter
ROLAND CP-40 converts pitch(or any audio signal) to MIDI notes
yo...u can play MIDI module sounds by your voice , guitar, theremin, acoustic instruments with mic etc
also good input device for your computer music
and what a futuristic design!
It's very simple to use, first connect CP-40 MIDI OUT to your MIDI sound module's MIDI IN
and put your mic or instruments output into CP-40's input jack
and humming or singing to your mic or play your guitar or other instruments
then MIDI sound module play same melody!
Of course it's possible to use CP-40 with your computer, to control sequencer or playing VST instruments
in this case CP-40 is turn to very useful and experimental input device
just humming to input notes on your sequencer or playing virtual synthesizer
It's really amazing!
And I specially recommends using CP-40 with THEREMIN because CP-40 indicates note No. that you playing
so it easily turn to good training tool for THEREMIN to find your correct note (pitch)
and of course it's very funny to play lots of sound of synth module by using hands with THEREMIN!
There are some devices featuring pitch to MIDI function e.g. Fairlight VOICETRACKER or breakaway VOCALIZER
but I think ROLAND CP-40 is most simple to use device in compact size
