In 1996, the BRIO company released their versions of Thomas wooden train characters. This series was only released for four years before they were retired.
BRIO-made Thomas characters were also only mostly released in Europe. Thus, these BRIO trains are considered rare and hard-to-find.

The BRIO sticker on the train has 1996 written on it. This is a first edition release of this BRIO-made DUKE & TENDER train.

The BRIO-made Thomas wooden trains are characterized by their metal rimmed wheels, as well as some distinct differences in design from the regular Thomas & Friends wooden railway versions.
