Taekkyon is considered the ancestor to modern Korean martial arts; however, other than a few magazine articles and a DVD, little technical information has been available in English. Kim Joo-hyun, International Director for the World Taekkyon Headquarters. fills this void with Taekkyon, a very through introductory text.
...rial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">After a brief historical overview, Kim presents the basic solo exercises , partnered practices, and rules for competition illustrated with clear color photography (of Kim & his son, Kim Jung-soo) throughout. The English text contains some awkward usage and there are a few punctuation errors. Techniques are named in Korean and explaned in English; however, an English equivalent chart would have been helpful.
The art of Taekkyon is considered an Intangable Culture Asset in Korea. The practice, while it can be vigorous, is not directed at striking the vulnerable places on the body so may be enjoyed as an exciting competition, pleasant recreation, or healthy exercise by young and old, men and women This well presented book will go far in promoting Taekkyon practice, Korean culture, and peaceful international relationships.
This is a really good book if you are interested in Learning about Taekkyon. It's not an easy art to learn about since it's a bit more obscure, but it's a well written and easy to understand document that does a good job of showcasing the techniques and philosophies of Taekkyon.
