Early Antique Victorian Kitchen Ice Chopper c.1890, Marked Gilchrist DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....Very neat antique Victorian ice chopper. VERY SUBSTANTIAL, and used in the kitchen to break up or break a piece off a large block of ice as delivered to the home. Made with 6 VERY SHARP, very substantial blades. Solid wooden handle. Very unusual in that it was made by Gilchrist & Co. and "GILCHRIST, No. 50" is cast into the throat. Hardly ever found marked. GILCHRIST WA...S FAMOUS AS THE FINEST MAKER OF ICE CREAM SCOOPS FOR MORE THAN 70 YEARS, from 1870 to about 1940.I have never seen one of these marked ice choppers before, and I think they are scarce today as they were used hard and they simply did not survive. IT WILL BE A PERFECT ADDITION TO YOUR ANTIQUE KITCHEN TOOL DISPLAY OR COLLECTION, and will also go well to complete an antique ice box display!!!
