YEMEN (MKY/Royalist)—1965/8 RAREFirst Definitive Set, MNH-VF This is the complete FirstDefinitive set of the Mutawakelite Kingdom of Yemen issued in 1965 (Michel159A-64A) PLUS the RARE 1-1/2 bogshahs green and black Imam Mohammed al-Badradditional value (A159A) issued May 1968. The set, which included stampspicturing the national flag and coat of arms, was personally designed by theinveterate Bruce Conde, aide de camp to the Imam and adviser on postal matters, and was—as he on...ce told me—"My pride and joy." I have seen less than half a dozen copies of the elusive 1-1/2bstamp offered over the past 10 years, and never for less than $100. I know it is extremely rare MNH, as Conde himselftold me that most of the small printing was used up in a few large mailings andthat even very few of the USED copies survived. That's why it's a mystery to methat the German Michel catalog, which is usually very informed on Middle Eastpostal history, lists this as A159A at only Euros 25 mint and used at 50! Yettry to find it on the philatelic market. I have finally located a couple of copies and can offer them now to you with the complete set.
