Vintage 1950s RARE Monterey Jade Marked W5 California Ceramic 8" Pottery Turtle
'MONTEREY JADE' POTTERY ~ California
Hard to find and Beautiful - no piece is identical... 'MONTEREY JADE' Pottery 'Monterey Jade' Turtle withcrystalline gold veins on a blue/green glaze Turtle size: about 9” Condition: Mint. No chips, nocrazing. Great Monterey Jade glaze. Marked on the bottom: "MONTEREY, JADE, W5 Monterey Pottery; About 1948, when a small pottery wasestablis...hed in the idyllic Carmel Valley. Evidently only the early ware wassigned Monterey Pottery. Vases and bowls with a variegated glaze simulating theveining seen in semi-precious jade were produced. It's uncertain whetherMonterey Jade was ever used to mark the product at this time. Sometime in the1950s, Rudi and Nanci Marzi bought the business and the Monterey Jade trademarkbegan to be used (more frequently?) to market the line. Artware, includingbowls, cases, figurines, and other novelties were produced and were marketed assouvenirs of Carmel from "California Pottery Scrapbook" by JackChipman
