Here's a chance to own a real piece of Lionel History! This "RARE, ONE OF A KIND" Lionel 0441X Weight Scale is conversion that was made at the Lionel factory early in 1932. The factory model shop took a 441 Scale and removed the two outside standard gauge rails and changed the width so an "O Gauge train could cross it, then resoldered them in place. Why they never produced it is anyone's guess. But here it i...s in all it's glory. And this how I obtained this piece. The wife of the gentleman I got it from worked with my wife at a local hospital and somehow they got talking about my trains. The wife said her husband at one time had old Lionel trains but had sold most of them 40 years earlier. She said that they still had one funny looking ramp left and would I like to have it, of course my wife said YES. Here is how he got it... As a 10 year old he was born and raised a block from the Lionel factory in New Jersey. He had a paper route and delivered papers in the neighborhood. As part of his route he walked down the street in front of the factory. Some of the employees were in front door talking in a foreign language he didn't understand, he was Polish the were all speaking Italian, as he walked by the started yelling at him. He became afraid and ran away. All these men wanted was to buy the evening newspaper. One afternoon a man who spoke English called him to come talk to him. He explained that all the men wanted to do was to buy a paper. He started delivering papers every afternoon and was soon allowed into the factory to peddle his papers. He was selling 40-50 papers inside the factory and had built up quite a following, making friends and joking with the workers along the way. Four years went by and he finally let the employees know he was giving up the newspaper route. On his last day they asked him if he had Lionel trains, which he did. They presented him with a new set of trains with extra track and this #0441X scale. The gentleman has since passed, and that's how I got this RARE piece of Lionel history... An Amazing TRUE story.
