MATTEL Vintage (1970) Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat Music Box
All features (hand crank, music, and pop-up mechanism) still work!
Dimensions: Tin box measures 5.25" W x 5.5" H x 5.25" D when closed. When open, it measures 12” high including the Cat in the Hat figurine.
The figurine is made of hollow plastic for the head (painted in white, red, and black) with a stitched cloth body, and paper hands. Four sides of the cube feature color illustrations of the Cat in the Hat'...s adventures.
When cranked, the music box plays main chorus of the song, ‘For He's a Jolly Good Fellow', then lid opens, and out pops the Cat in the Hat!
Condition is Used
Portions of tin box have rust, small dings / dents and / or scratches from play and storage as shown in photos.
Additional known flaws: there’s a light purple stamp on the lid and front panel of the box which reads, “George H Baldue.” I’m unsure if it was added to the toy after purchase; or if came that way. This can be seen in the photos if you zoom.
