This set is used but is in excellent condition and 100% complete, making it the perfect collectible piece.
This is a precision made reproduction Zoetrope made by Van Cort. It is a discontinued product, no longer available from Van Cort. Includes 8 animated strips; you can also download or create your own strips. When you spin the drum, and look through the slits, the strip inside seems to move wi...th a repetitive action. A beautifully crafted optical toy.
The top drum is made of wood wrapped in green leatherette on a wood disc with brass base-plate that rests on the brass spindle. The base stand is solid wood that looks like it is walnut. This is excellent condition, not mint but very close. The brass spindle is free of any corrosion or pitting but shows signs of handling/use where the pieces come together and spin. The unit is clean and in total working order. When fully assembled, it is 7 3/8" tall by 5 3/8" wide. The upper drum is 5 3/8" wide by 4 1/8" tall. The wooden base is 3 1/4" in diameter.
The clever design allows the base, spindle, and animation strips to be stored inside the drum when not in use or on display; the base attaches (sits on) the center spinning peg.
