DINKY Toys Meccano 749 AVRO VULCAN Delta Wing Bomber, RARE
Item History & Price
A noteworthy item to mention is the left tip of the wing appears to be missing a bit of the cast. It appears to be very minor damage. (see pics.) I see normal period-correct play wear ...& quite nice decals on the wings. I prefer to not grade this piece, but rather to let you who are the collecting community decide on its value! : )

Thank you!On Jul-05-19 at 21:21:38 PDT, seller added the following information:For those who wonder about actual production numbers on this piece, I give reference to this post made in a reputable hobby forum: "The best answer I've seen regarding Vulcan production appeared in the late, lamented Classic Toys magazine for Aug / Sep 1994 in an interview with Mr. Percy Hewitt, who worked for Meccano from 1926 to 1975, retiring as Technical Manager of the Binns Road works. To quote... "The normal temperature used to produce a Dinky diecast model was around 400 degrees F. Because the Vulcan model was a one piece casting and being solid and big it would have proved just too heavy if it had been made out of Mazak. The decision to make a model out of aluminium was fine, but we didn't realize that the temperature needed to be almost doubled - this excessive heat just blew out tools - they cracked and we just about managed to make 500 - it should have been 50, 000."
