This is a vintage Emilia Castillo Plateado silver, malachite and turquoise photo frames set. Please see my eBay store and my other listings for silver and other collectible items. This amazing hand made item was originally sold at Neiman Marcus in Texas. It features two oval frames, each one held from the top by its own monkey with black eyes and a curly tail. The display stand has the form of a tree, with turquoise and malachite leaves at the top and sides. The frames ...each contain two hand-cut plexi-glass ovals, and you put your photo(s) between the two ovals and place the whole thing inside the frame, which closes with a little latch. If you choose you can put two photos in each frame, to face front and back. The base is green felt with a little "Made in Mexico" sticker. The screw on the base is marked "Emilia Castillo Mexico M.R. Plateado TO-85". Emilia Castillo is the daughter of the esteemed Don Antonio Castillo, founder of the famous Los Castillo studio in Taxco. You can scroll down to see more photos. This handsome piece measures 11 1/4" tall by 8 1/2" wide overall. The frames are 7 1/4" (including the monkeys) by 3 1/2", and the maximum size for photos is 4 1/4" by 3 1/2". Everything weighs 2 lbs 12.6 oz (44.6 oz or 1264 gr) all together. This fantastical set is in very good as found condition, with signs of use and quite a bit of tarnish.
