Outstanding. This Coffee Pot is a weighty 28.5ozt, with a capacity of 1.5lts.! The quality here is exceptional in every way. The result is typical of the very high standard of the makers, Edward & John Barnard of the justly famous Barnard Family of gold & Silversmiths. A heavy gauge of silver has been used throughout. This is important. This sterling silver coffee pot is very keenly priced for its weight and makers. The design is rare for the period&...nbsp; - early/mid Victorian. Interestingly, designs which echo this coffee pot are not untypical of other Barnard designs, but I have not seen anything similar from other silversmiths. The tapering cylindrical body has an angular handle in silver. The engraved decoration is simple in concept. A diamond lattice design, but detailed in execution. There is an oval cartouche on both sides, each one vacant. The spout is wonderful! An explosion of brilliant casting and engraving. The engraved circular lid is inset with a cast detachable finial; The angular handle to the coffee pot is also pleasingly engraved. Weight: 28.5ozt / 887.4gmDimensions: Ht. 9" Diam. of base: 5.5" / 23cm HISTORICAL NOTE: Queen Victoria commissioned Edward & John Barnard to make the gold christening font for the baptism of her first child Victoria, always known as 'Vicky'. She was subsequently married to the Emperor Frederick of Germany and was mother of Kaiser William. The Barnard Font has been used for almost all Royal christenings ever since - and will no doubt be used again shortly.
