All of our theater photographs are from our Falls City Theatre & Equipment Company Collection were from several binders used much like a portfolio to show their customers their products & capabilities. Acquired from the estate of Mary Carrell, the last President of Falls City Theatre & Equipment Company, Louisville KY.The Scheppelman Carrell Family Collection of photos & documents spans a century inclusive of the birth of talking movie theaters, drive-in movie theaters, and major motion picture industry related machinations throughout Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois along with Schepp’s Comedy & Animal Circus, Scheppelman Bros. Bakery, The Morgan Placer Gold Mining Corporation, Kresge Co., WW2 and other historic events. Please follow us as we unveil for public sale, many previously unseen photographs and documents.
The Falls City TheatreEquipment Company was locatedat 429 S. 3rd Street in downtown Louisville, now the Omni Hotel's firstLouisville location. The Louisville Historic Preservation committee persuadedthe Omni Hotel to save the iconic sign, which has been restored and placed foruse in the Omni's speakeasy. The interior of thebuilding was exemplary of the art deco period and was covered inevery type of photographic equipment you could find, giving off a beautifullyeclectic appearance and drawing in window shoppers. Founded by William (Bill)E. Carrell Sr., two more generations continued the tradition along with ahandful of employees. During their early years, the Falls City Theatre& Equipment Company helped to jump start the beginning of the talking motionpicture industry, sprouting up movie theaters & drive ins throughoutKentucky, Ohio & Illinois and supplying others throughout the country. Theysupplied cameras, camera equipment, projectors, signs, theater seating, carpet, contractors, concessions, and much more. Some of the documents discovered showthat they also provided investments and loans to help build the theaters. Once business wasconcluded in the late 80s, the building's roof began to cave in and nearly allof the objects of value or historic significance were destroyed from being opento the elements of mother nature. After reaching out to multiple entities tofind other items from the company that were left in the building, we were toldrepeatedly that nearly all of it was destroyed. This leads us to believe thatour vast collection of original photography (movie theater marquees, signs, concessions, equipment, architecture, & interior design), correspondence, etc..., is a one of a kind collection. You will not findreproductions or any of these photographs for sale or being currently usedanywhere. However, we are certain that many of these photographs were used inadvertisements promoting the grand opening of these theaters. If you areinterested in purchasing more than one, or all of this collection, and you area serious buyer, please contact us. If you have any information to add, or anyquestions to ask, please do so!
