Up for auction today is a rare 1948 US Army ' C Ration' - Mystery B-Unit - Crackers.At first I thought it might be an early Food Packet, Individual Assault B-Unit - but it seems that had a cookie in it from the beginning. Not an early RCI C-Ration, looks like the B-Units were the bigger can from the startIt has the silver can and blue lettering like some WWII B-Units, but they were also the bigger can and were no longer in production in 1948.Not a K ration, the 'bread' was not in ...a can.So the only thing really left for 1948 is the 5-in-1 ration, which apparently did have crackers and was being manufactured that year.Or it could be from some obscure emergency ration or an experimental type thing. If anyone out there is familiar with this, message me and let me know!The original key was broken off and gone, so I included a later C-Ration key in the sale.As you can see in the pictures, there is surface rust and tarnish, but the can is still nicely sealed.Check photos to make judgement on overall condition.Note: this is for collecting purposes - not for consumption.
