Original Description:
A very good quality and large antique Victorian swivel mourning brooch with ornate pinchbeck surround. The brooch has a height of 2.7 ins (68 mm) and a width of 2.4 ins (60 mm) and weighs 50.3 g. The central swivel locket has a depth of just over 0.4 ins (10 mm) and is glazed on both sides. One side contains a picture made from blonde and brunette hair in the from of a flower with large leaves. The two flower heads are also made from hair. The reverse of the locket is empty. The large ...pinchbeck frame has a fine engraved floral motif on the front, the back is undecorated. The brooch fastens with a tube hinge, straight pin and 'C' clasp. The pinchbeck is a very good bright gold colour and the brooch is in very good condition free from damage, with slight rubbing to the central swivel locket where it comes into contact with the pinchbeck frame. A very fine example of a Victorian mourning brooch which would make a welcome addition to anyone's collection.
