Revell 05041 1/350 SMS Emden German WW1 Light Cruiser This auction is for one open kit as shown, one of whose box tapes was pulled off the box in a somewhat messy manner (see 4th and 8th pictures - part of the box finish came off with the tape). This is a decent kit and detail is good throughout, with lots of little bits to keep one busy. The odd-looking orange and black thing in the 2nd picture is a spool of rigging thread; the Emden carried a fair bit of... it, with those two immense masts. Note the kit has a full hull so if you want to waterline it you'll need to cut the hull. Painting guides are provided for both the prewar 1911-1913 period and also for the Emden's colors during her 1914 war cruise. You can build it out of the box and get a good-looking WW1 cruiser (you could pair it with Zvezda's Varyag) but you can also add photo-etch. There's lots available, as well as wooden decks... Decals, in new condition (3rd picture) contain an immense (for this scale) ensign, hull shields and numbers as well as some other little bits and in addition there's a sheet of good old fashioned paper signal flags as well as two more ensigns. If you model WW1 ships in this scale the Emden is essential not in the least because it's a nice kit. The box and contents are in new condition beyond what you see in pictures 4 and 8 but be aware there's a faint odorto the box - the former owner smoked and I've a sensitive nose and I smell it. So build it! Glue and paint will eradicate a number of smells... ;-)
