Vintage Hand Painted OCARINA Clay Flute/Whistle/Necklace 8 Holes with NAZCA Figures Design
This Ocarina is in excellent condition. I purchased it in Chile in 1984, but it dates from before that. The Ocarina type flute was developed in pre-Colombian times in the Andes Mountains and is rapidly becoming extinct. However it is still used in parts of Ecuador and in the Andean Atacama Desert Region of Chile. This is an authen...tic one from that region. The design is similar to some of the famous NAZCA LINES figures found in Far Southern Peru and Far Northern Chile. Similar designs are found on ancient ceramics and on cave walls in the area. The necklace is made from multicolored strands of the wool from Llamas, native to this part of the Andes.
The person who sold it took the trouble to write a short history of the Ocarina, as well as some instructions on how to play it, and some finger charts for 4 popular Chilean folk and traditional musical compositions. I have included this. It is written in Spanish. For $25.00 more I can have this translated if desired or required.
There are some relatively minor white marks which appear to be part of the original fabrication, because this item has been in its packaging and stored away since it was purchased 35 years ago. I have tried to show as much detail as possible in the photographs.
Measures overall approximately 3" Long x 2 1/8" Wide x 1" Thick and weighs about 2 Ounces.
