Original Description:
Offering this 18th century long handled roasting fork. Blacksmith made and all hand wrought, this fork measures 24" in length by 2 and a quarter inches across at the tines. Great heart with arrow design would serve as a fork or serving spoon for a small or large portion of roasted meat from the fireplace. All one piece of hand forged iron it shows wonderful craftsmanship from one end to the other. Condition is not perfect with the handle end missing the hanging loop. Not sure if it was... heart shaped or the typical lollipop circular end. Either way it shows wear on that end as it must have been used for a long time after it was damaged, as that end is worn smooth. Notice in the 5th photo that there is a lug on the bottom side for resting on the hearth. More than likely the hanging loop was hammered thinner than the rest of the fork and after years of use it just wore too thin and was broken in use. It is what it is but still a great piece of early American iron ready for use or display. Thanks for the look and please see our other sales for more early stuff.
