Two minutes later tragedy struck when Rovers defender Whelan broke a leg in a harmless looking tackle with Deeley. At half time, then, Wolves must have gone off knowing that, barring further accidents, the Cup was surely theirs. Despite their handicap, however, Rovers were far from prepared to accept defeat without a struggle. As the combined effects of the heat and of playing with ten men began to tell on the Rovers team, Wolves almost inevitably went further ahead. In the sixty seventh minute Home beat the offside trap and had plenty of time in which to centre from the left to Deeley who scored with a first time shot from near the penalty spot. The remainder of the match was dominated by Wolves. Flowers had a goal' disallowed for offside, and then Deeley followed up to score a third after Stobart's centre had come back off a post.  Route to Final Semi FinalBLACKBURN R v Sheff Wed 2-1, Aston Villa v WOLVES 0-1. Sixth RoundBurnley v BLACKBURN R 3-3, 0-2, Sheffield Utd v Sheff Wednesday 0-2, Aston Villa v PNE 2-0, Leicester City v WOLVES 1-2. Fifth RoundSpurs v BLACKBURN R 1-3, Bradford C v Burnley 2-2, 0-5, Sheff Utd v Watford 3-2, Manchester Utd v Sheff Wed 0-1, Port Vale v Aston Villa 1-2, PNE v Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1, Leicester C v WBA 2-1, Luton Town v WOLVES 1-4. Fourth RoundBLACKBURN R v Blackpool 1-1, 3-0, Crewe Alex v Spurs 2-2, 2-13, Bradford C v Bournemouth & Bos Ath 3-1, Swansea T v Burnley 0-0, 1-2, Sheff Utd v Nottingham Forest 3-0, Southampton v Watford 2-2, 0-1, Liverpool v Man Utd 1-3, Sheff Wed v Peterborough United 2-0, Scunthorpe Utd v Port Vale 0-1, Chelsea v Aston Villa 1-2, Bristol R v PNE 3-3, 1-5, Rotherharn Utd v Brighton & H Albion 1-1, 1-1, 0-6, Leicester C v Fulham 2-1, WBA v Bolton Wanderers 2-0, Huddersfield T v Luton T 0-1, WOLVES v Charlton Athletic 2-1. Third RoundSunderland v BLACKBURN R 1-1, 1-4, Blackpool v Mansfield T 3-0, Crewe Alex v Workington 2-0, Newport Co v Spurs 0-4, Bradford C v Everton 3-0, Bournemouth & Bos Ath v York C 1-0,   Gillingham v Swansea T 1-4,   Lincoln C v Burnley 1-1, 0-2, Sheff Utd v Portsmouth 3-0, Nott'm Forest v Reading 1-0, Man C v Southampton 1-5, Watford v Birmingham C 2-1, Liverpool v Leyton Orient 2-1, Derby County v Man Utd 2-4, Sheff Wed v Middlesbrough 2-1, Ipswich T v Peterborough Utd 2-3, Scunthorpe Utd v Crystal Palace 1-0, Cardiff C v Port Vale 0-2, Chelsea v Bradford PA 5-1, Aston Villa v Leeds Utd 2-1, Bristol Rovers v Doncaster R 0-0, 2-1, Stoke C v PNE 1-1, 1-3, Rotherham Utd v Arsenal 2-2, 1-1, 2-0, Bath C v Brighton & H Alb 0-1, Wrexham v Leicester C 1-2, Fulham v Hull C 5-0, WBA v Plymouth Arg 3-2, Bury v Bolton Wand 1-1, 2-4, Huddersfield T v West Ham 1-1, 5-1, Exeter C v Luton T 1-2, Newcastle Utd v WOLVES 2-2, 2-4, Bristol C v Charlton Ath 2-3.  The year that was 1960... • On 3 February, British prime minister Harold Macmillan makes the 'wind of change' speech in South Africa, in which he recognises the demands of African nationalism • On 21 March in the Sharpeville massacre, South African police fire on anti-apartheid protesters in a township south of Johannesburg, killing 69 and wounding 186 • On 1 May, an American U-2 spy plane, piloted by Gary Powers, is shot down over the Soviet Union.
