English Indenture, 1703, Sutterton, Boston Lincolnshire, Pendant Seals & Stamps
Item History & Price
Condition: Very good condition, folds as originally stored.
This indenture on vellum is dated 29th November 1703, being the second year of the reign of Queen Ann (sic) - Anne succeeded to the throne in March 1702 but by the calendar of the time that was 1701.
The two seals at the bottom bear a date of 1588. The names of Isaar(Isiah?) and Joseph Teesdale shown are those of the tenants, described as husbandmen. O...ne seal bears the mark of Joseph Teesdale, his name perhaps written in by his son.
The landlord is John Pakey of Boston, and the deed is for a lease of 7 years of some land in Sutterton, near Boston in Lincolnshire (England)
On the left of the recto is the blue Revenue stamp showing the garter seal, and below that a duty stamp. On the verso are the witnesses signatures and the filing description.
The writing is quite hard work to decipher but not impossible. One the whole a characterful piece of manuscript local history, enhanced with the pendant seals, and in very nice condition.
Please see my other times for another vellum indenture dated 1735.
