She had often told us stories about her younger days working at a fancy hotel in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, during the '30s and '40s, but we were not aware until now that she had collected a few autographs along the way.
Glenn Miller was arguably the biggest music star of the swing era. The trombonist and bandleader was responsible for many of the biggest hits of the time including "Moonlight Serenade, " "Pennsylvania 6-5000, " "Chattanooga Choo Choo, " "A String of Pearls" and the classic "In the Mood." Sadly, in 1944, on his way to entertain the troops during World War II, Miller's plane disappeared and was never found. A year later, he was awarded the Bronze Star posthumously.
We know Miller played at Cleveland's famous Aragon Ballroom. Perhaps this was the event that brought the famous bandleader and our Aunt Sylvia together.
