Ms. Miller or also known by choice as "Jack" was a Japanese born, American living and working in Japan is the early 20's. She became very interested in Japanese Woodblock prints and worked her way through various art schools and apprenticed with ot...her artist.
Where the traditional Woodblock has a series of artists working on one piece, the artist, the engraver, the printer and the publisher, Ms. Miller did the whole process herself.
She taught and lectured some in the states and had a show in California, and ended up moving to Hawaii just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This upset her so much that her beloved Japanese would do this that (as the story is told) destroyed her work.
My grandparents were in Japan for many years and were friends with Ms Miller and have purchased a number of her work which has survived. I even have Ms. Miller's woodblock Christmas cards over a few years to my Grandparents. I have kept the pieces of Ms Miller I Love but feel it is time to let the Dwarf Berry Tree bring Joy to someone else.
She is truly an artist to read about and explore and if you collect Japanese woodblocks and don't have a Lillian Miller.... let this be a must to your collection. And if you like this please view the other items I have for sale on eBay.
