Mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Cathrine Cooper - 1851. This sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the middle section is stitched with a central tulip basket flanked by a dog and carnation bowl. There is a bird sitting on the topmost bloom of the tulip basket with a floral urn and motif to his left and right. The lower section of the l...inen is stitched with a central plaque which contains Cathrine's name and the date of Novr 11 '51. The plaque has a tree and heart on each side then the whole piece is surrounded by a meandering floral border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a few very small areas of minor thinning and faint marks. The colours of the thread are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Cathrine first stitched it.Measures 11 1/2" x 15 1/2" I AM ALSO SELLING TWO OTHERS SAMPLERS WHICH I ACQUIRED AT THE SAME TIME AS CATHRINE'S. THEY ARE BY ELIZABETH ANN AND LUCY COOPER. ALL THREE SAMPLERS ARE SIMILAR AND FINISHED AROUND THE SAME TIME SO I THINK IT IS LIKELY THE GIRLS WERE SISTERS. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. ALSO PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER SAMPLERS I'M SELLING. I AM HAPPY TO COMBINE POSTAGE ON MULTIPLE PURCHASES.PLEASE NOTE - THIS ITEM IS LOCATED IN THE UK BUT CAN BE SHIPPED TO THE LOCATIONS TICKED IN THE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING SECTION.
